Another Report Highlights the Labor-Green Health Mess

Posted on

The Liberal Government notes the work of Mr Goddard, which is yet another scathing indictment on the former Labor-Green Government.

It highlights the challenges which we face but which the former government ignored. As a result we have a health system which often fails Tasmanians.

The Liberal Government is committed to fixing the mess left behind by Labor and the Greens. The report’s findings in relation to the challenges in providing care for our elderly is even more reason to reform our health system to ensure we provide the right health services in the right locations, so that all Tasmanians, wherever they live and whatever their age, can get the right treatment at the right time.

We need to shift resources from the backroom bureaucracy to front line services, and that is what we are doing.

Our One State, One Health System; Better Outcomes reform will also lead to a more accountable and transparent health system.

This is no small undertaking, but it is a change which must happen to deliver the health system Tasmanians deserve.

It will deliver access to better services – services which are safer and of a higher quality. It will reduce waiting list times and put the needs of patients first. It will make the health system more transparent and accountable. And it will make significant savings to be reinvested back into frontline services.

Put simply, this will deliver better health outcomes for Tasmanians.

I have asked the Department of Health and Human Services to review the Goddard report and report back to me.
Michael Ferguson, Minister for Health
