Peter Gutwein: Confidence Grows Under Liberal Government

The latest ABS figures show confidence is growing under the Liberal Government.

Dwelling approvals for May increased 40.8% compared to the same time last year, their highest level since June 2011. Dwelling approvals have increased by nearly 50% since the election of a majority Liberal Government and the implementation of our policies to boost confidence and create economic growth and jobs.

Our policies, including the headworks holiday, the local benefits test for government tenders, reforming planning schemes and reducing red and green tape, will help continue this positive trend.

Retail turnover has also increased by 8.9 per cent compared to the same time last year.

This is the highest increase in Australia and well above the national average of 5.3%.

The Liberal Government has committed one million dollars into the retail sector to assist business adapt to the changing environment.

This includes the $800,000 Digital Ready for Retail Program and $240,000 to establish the Tasmanian Retailer Development Program.

This will act as an immediate stimulus to the sector and allow us to capitalise on this renewed confidence to strengthen the economy.
