Liberals sell out public sector workers

Posted on

Labor Leader Bryan Green today condemned the Liberal Government’s attack on hard working public servants.

Mr Green said teachers, police and nurses are being forced to pay for Will Hodgman’s spending spree with a wage cut in real terms.

“Labor warned the Liberals that promising more than $500 million in spending would ultimately result in cuts to public services,” Mr Green said.

“Now Peter Gutwein is trying to blackmail public servants into accepting a pay cut, based on the premise of saving other jobs.

“This move is worse than Work Choices because it leaves workers with no choice at all.

“The Liberals are basically telling public servants that you’ll get what you’re given.

“The so called pay freeze, which is effectively a pay cut, is taking way the voice of workers.

“Workers, including teachers, will be forced to forego negotiated incremental pay increases based on meeting high performance targets.

“There was no talk of this tactic prior to the election, as the Liberals went about promising everything to everyone.

“This isn’t fair on workers or unions.

“The Government should honour its commitments, not issue ultimatums that remove the rights of workers.”
