Bryan Green: Labor ready to work constructively for the West Coast

Posted on

Labor Leader Bryan Green says Labor stands ready to work with the management and employees of the Henty gold mine.

“News of the mine’s pending closure is of great concern and a blow to the West Coast,” Mr Green said.

“I pledge to work with the mine’s management to make sure adequate support is given to employees and the community in general.

“I’ll be on the West Coast tomorrow and will take the opportunity to visit Henty.

“I also plan on meeting with West Coast Mayor Robyn Gerrity to be briefed on news from the Mt Lyell mine.

“We want to see the West Coast have a strong and diverse economic future.

“On top of having a strong mining future, Labor has always believed that expansion in aquaculture and tourism are crucial to the region.

“It’s important now that the State Government allows us to understand what’s happening with the second stage of the Abt Railway.

“New mining activity, including the Mancala project at Guilford, is also important.

“The project was unnecessarily called in by the Federal Government.

“The Premier should insist Employment Minister Eric Abetz acts quickly to remove the unnecessary impediments, allowing the project to start immediately.

“We’re ready to work constructively with the State Government to ensure the best possible economic outcomes for the West Coast.”
