Appointment of Solicitor-General
I am very pleased to announce that Michael O’Farrell SC has been appointed as Solicitor-General.
The Solicitor-General provides legal advice to Ministers, agencies and instrumentalities of the Crown and also represents the state in any Constitutional litigation.
Mr O’Farrell will bring to the role extensive knowledge of and experience in a wide range of areas of the law – including general and commercial litigation, real property disputes, industrial and employment law, and judicial review and administrative law.
Graduating with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Tasmania in 1983, Mr O’Farrell was a Partner of Dobson Mitchell & Allport from 1990-2002 before going to the Bar in 2002, and was appointed a Senior Counsel on 9 April 2009.
I would like to thank Mr Frank Neasey, who has acted in the role of Solicitor-General following the departure of Leigh Sealy earlier this year.
Mr O’Farrell will take up the position of Solicitor-General on 1 September.
