Alderman calls for candidates to commit to donations disclosure.

Alderman Philip Cocker has called on his Aldermanic colleagues and others considering candidature for Hobart City Council elections to commit to disclosing all donations prior to voting.

“I am calling on all sitting Alderman and other candidates to demonstrate a commitment to transparency and disclose via Facebook all donations received for their campaign”.

The State Government has rejected legislation to enforce disclosure and so it is up to those would be elected to display Leadership and a commitment to the value of transparency.

The disclosure of donations helps the ratepayers of Hobart have confidence in the Institution of council and that Alderman will make the best decisions on the information before them and not be influenced by unknown factors to the public.

“I propose that Alderman make the commitment to disclosing all donations on Facebook by October before the commencement of voting.

Let the public see which candidates are by their actions willing to commit to transparency and allow the voters to see who is supporting whom and to what extent”.
