Will Hodgman: Congratulating our Commonwealth Games Athletes

Posted on

Congratulations to seven Tasmanians selected to represent Australia at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next month.

The seven Tasmanians will represent Australia in five sports; boxing, cycling, hockey, weightlifting, and track and field.

This equals the number of athletes Tasmania produced for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Once again, for a state of around 500,000 people, we are proving to be a force in high-performance sport.

Representing your country is an enormous honour and Tasmanians will watch with pride as these athletes compete on the world stage.

My warmest congratulations to all our athletes and best wishes for the Games from July 23.

I also wish hurdler Tristan Thomas a speedy recovery, after an injury forced him to withdraw from selection for the Games.

The representatives are:

• Jackson Woods and Nick Cooney from the sport of boxing;
• Amy Cure from track cycling;
• Eddie Ockenden from hockey;
• Jenna Myers from weightlifting; and
• Hamish Peacock and Huw Peacock from track and field.
