Will Hodgman: Business Event Tourism Boom

Posted on

Business Events Tasmania plays a vital role in assisting this Government reach its target to attract 1.5 million visitors a year to Tasmania by 2020.

It has been another successful year for BET, which has secured more than 115 events worth an estimated $33 million to our state.

Business events such as meetings, conventions and exhibitions make a valuable contribution to tourism and the Tasmanian economy, as well as playing a vital role in promoting the state.

I congratulate BET on its achievements in driving business tourism over the past financial year. However I acknowledge that BET’s role is much bigger than tourism.

By building alliances with key industries including agriculture, aquaculture, arts, ship building, forestry and Antarctic activity, BET is able to secure business events that allow our expertise to be recognised on the national and international stage.

It is important to continue building Tasmania as a business event destination not just for tourism, but for the growth of the economy and to create jobs.
Will Hodgman, Premier, Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events
