Michelle O’Byrne: Time for Libs to spell out education plan

Posted on

Shadow Education Minister Michelle O’Byrne today called for more detail on the year 11 and 12 subject choices that will be offered in regional schools.

It has been revealed that of the 10 schools that expressed an interest in taking part in the Liberal Party’s post year 10 trial, 7 already offer year 11 and 12 courses.

Labor Shadow Education Minister, Michelle O’Byrne, said the Liberals were trying to make it look like they are delivering on their election promises when in reality they had achieved very little.

“After nearly 100 days in Government the Liberals have done little more than set up reviews, write letters, defer decisions and shift blame,” Ms O’Byrne said.

“The post year 10 promise is a classic example of the Liberal Party’s pea and thimble tricks.”

Ms O’Byrne said the Liberal Government needed to provide detail about what would practically be achieved through their policy.

“Tasmanian schools already stand to lose out massively as a result of the Liberal Party’s broken promise to uphold their promise on Gonski funding,” Ms O’Byrne said.

“We need to be assured that every cent of funding in education is being spent effectively and not simply duplicating services that are already provided.

“Jeremy Rockliff must consult with schools, teachers and parents to hear what they want and be open and transparent about what his policy will actually deliver.”
