Jacquie Petrusma: Operation Christmas Child
I was very pleased today to help launch the 2014 Operation Christmas Child Appeal.
Operation Christmas Child is a project which sees a shoe box with personal gifts sent to children overseas suffering from war, poverty, famine, disease and disaster,
In 2013 more than 315,000 gifts were sent from Australia and New Zealand to Vietnam, Cambodia, Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and Thailand.
Tasmanians have in the past been particularly generous in supporting Operation Christmas Child. Last year 16,434 shoeboxes were sent from Tasmania, a nine per cent increase from 2012.
This says to me there are some very generous, giving Tasmanians who have tremendous compassion for those less fortunate.
I hope the 2014 Operation Christmas Child is again hugely successful and I encourage everyone who can support the cause to do so.
