Guy Barnett: Special Olympics Tasmania Winter Games
Today I officially opened the Special Olympics Tasmanian Winter Games on behalf of the Minister of Human Services Jacquie Petrusma.
I congratulate all the competitors who have worked very hard in their chosen sport to reach their goal of competing in the Winter Games. The volunteers, friends, family, mums and dads as well as the officials from Special Olympics Australia also need to be commended for all their hard work in making this event happen.
The Liberal Government remains committed to supporting Tasmanians who require the support of the Community and Disability Sectors, as such I would like to restate the our commitment to the full roll out of the NDIS in Tasmania.
Further to the roll out, we have pledged a further $2 million to support those on the waiting list outside the NDIS trial. In addition to this the Government has committed an additional $9 million in funding for Community Sector organisations over the next four years.
The Liberal Government will continue to work to increase opportunities for people with disability to participate in sport and recreation through implementation of the Sport and Active Recreation Framework for People with Disability.
I wish each of the competitors the best of luck in their events and to quote the motto of the Special Olympics: Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.
Guy Barnett, Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier
