Guy Barnett: Emergency Food Relief Funding

Posted on

The Liberal Government has stepped in to help ensure Tasmanians in need don’t go without.

We will provide an additional $87,000 to extend the 2013-14 emergency food relief funding by six-months until 31 December 2014.

Emergency food relief providers play a valuable role in donating fresh and non-perishable food to families in need.

Funding for these providers was due to be cut under the previous Labor Green Government, leaving some vulnerable Tasmanians to go hungry.

The Liberal Government has taken action to ensure this will not happen.

This funding will help Foodbank of Tasmania, SecondBite and Produce to the People Tasmania to become more self-sufficient by the end of this year and secure a more financially sustainable future.

This Government will also create a more collaborative approach to projects and partnerships between emergency food relief providers and the community sector to help ensure the future of these services.
