Guy Barnett: Matthew Richardson’s Induction into the AFL Hall of Fame

Posted on

As the Liberal member for Lyons and a proud Richmond Football Club member, I today moved a motion in the Tasmanian Parliament congratulating Matthew Richardson on his induction into the AFL Hall of Fame.

Born and raised in Devonport, Matthew is a true champion and wonderful ambassador for his Tasmania.

Son of another Tasmanian footballing great, Alan “Bull” Richardson, Matthew was chased by several AFL clubs before joining Richmond under the father-son rule in 1992.

In 282 games for the Richmond Football Club, he kicked 800 goals, was the club leading goal-kicker in thirteen seasons, a three-time All-Australian, and one of the greats of Australian football.

I congratulate this fine Tasmanian, entertaining sportsman, and now passionate advocate and commentator off the field on this richly deserved honour.

Matthew joins other Tasmanian greats in the AFL Hall of Fame including Daryl Baldock, Ian Stewart, Peter Hudson and Royce Hart.
