Bryan Green: Brakes put on rushed forest legislation
The Government has been left with egg on its face after the Legislative Council rose for the winter recess without debating the Liberals’ poorly put together forestry policy.
“For all the talk of ‘D-Day’ and the haste the Liberals guillotined debate on the issue, the Liberals’ policy has been placed on the back-burner,” Labor Leader Bryan Green said.
“The Legislative Council has shown that it will not be bullied or rushed when it considers this bill.
“It vindicates Labor’s request for the Government to rewrite and withdraw the legislation.
“The Liberals claim to be acting decisively but given that when Parliament resumes the Budget will take centre stage, a vote on the Liberals’ forest policy might not be held in the Legislative Council until much later.
“The Liberal Government’s pig-headedness has again come back to bite them.”
