Bryan Green: Liberals put cocktails before jobs

Posted on

The gagging of debate on the forestry bill reveals the warped priorities of the Liberal Government.

Labor Leader, Bryan Green, said the Government chose not to debate the legislation yesterday evening so that Ministers could knock off early to attend a function at Government House.

“This is a Government that puts cocktails before jobs,” Mr Green said.

“We have legitimate questions about how this Bill will create jobs when it removes market certainty and doesn’t provide a single additional log to the forest industry for at least 6 years.

“Rather than allowing an opportunity for the bill to be fully scrutinised yesterday, the Government chose to knock off early for cocktails and cucumber sandwiches.

“Now we have been denied the opportunity to get answers on behalf of industry, with debate on the Bill to be guillotined at 4.20pm this afternoon, presumably because Government members have decided they have somewhere more important to be.”
