Bryan Green: Case closed: Libs break jobs promise
The Tasmanian Liberal Government’s cruel intentions on public service job cuts have finally been revealed.
Labor Leader Bryan Green said the Liberal Party’s plan to cut 1500 public service jobs was a clear betrayal of voters’ trust.
“Labor warned during the election that the Liberals would resort to slashing jobs to pay for their unaffordable promises,” Mr Green said.
“Tasmanians will be rightfully appalled that the promised 500 job cuts have now tripled to 1500 just a few short months after the election.”
Mr Green said the Government is trying to manipulate figures to justify its plans to cut further and deeper into the public service.
“The Tasmanian State Service Annual Report tabled in Parliament last year was an audited report that confirmed the previous government was on target to reach its savings strategy,” Mr Green said.
“The decision to slash another 1500 jobs from the Tasmanian public service is entirely due to the policies and ideology of the Hodgman Government.
“These savage cuts lay firmly at the feet of Will Hodgman and Peter Gutwein, who were repeatedly warned to rein in election spending. They chose to ignore those warnings and Tasmanian workers are now paying the price.
“The Liberals promised to cut 500 jobs and now it’s 1500.
“That’s a broken promise. Case closed.”
