Will Hodgman: No Change to Concessions on July 1

Posted on

The Liberal Government is committed to supporting Tasmanians who are vulnerable and need support.

This year, the State Government will provide around $300 million worth of concessions to Tasmanians.

It is disappointing that as a result of the Federal Labor budget mess, the Federal Government has indicated it intends to reduce the amount of money it provides to the Tasmanian Government to help with concessions by $8.9 million per year.

However, I can assure pensioners and seniors that from July 1 they will continue to receive their concessions unchanged for services like public transport, electricity bills and water and sewerage bills.

The funding from the Federal Government is provided directly to the Tasmanian Government to offset the cost of concessions.

We are working through the longer term implications of this funding reduction as part the budget development process.
