Will Hodgman: Qantas jobs secured
The Liberal Government is getting on with our long-term plan to create jobs.
That is why we have worked hard to secure a commitment from Qantas to consolidate its Australian call centres in Tasmania.
This is fantastic news for Tasmanian jobs and the 246 staff currently employed at the Hobart call centre.
We expect the number of jobs at the call centre will grow, creating further opportunities for Tasmanians.
This Government’s confidential discussions with Qantas have been effective in securing this opportunity and an assistance package has helped deliver a great result for Tasmania.
Qantas has said Hobart was the logical choice because of the centre’s modern facilities, its strong track-record of service and superior cost structure.
Qantas will offer staff at its Victorian and Queensland contact centres an opportunity to relocate to Tasmania.
The Liberal Government is getting on with the job of implementing our election commitments, and our long-term plan to grow the economy and create jobs.
Further details about the assistance package provided to Qantas will be released when negotiations are finalised.
