Will Hodgman: Supporting Commonwealth Games Hopefuls

Posted on

I am incredibly proud to support Tasmania’s Commonwealth Games hopefuls in their bid to represent their state and country in Glasgow.

Thirteen Tasmanian athletes are up for selection across five of the 17 sports including boxing, hockey and track and field. That number is on track to exceed the seven Tasmanian athletes who competed at the 2010 Games in Delhi, India.

The Liberal Government is providing $40,000 to the Australian Commonwealth Games Team Appeal. The Tasmanian Institute of Sport has also played an important role in our state’s sporting success for well over 20-years providing expert support, coaching and performance analysis.

Tasmania has a very rich and proud sporting tradition. We love our sport and we love to see Tasmanians do well on the world stage. I wish the athletes every success in their journey to the Commonwealth Games.

Athletes in contention are:

• Jackson Woods and Nick Cooney from the sport of boxing
• Amy Cure, Matt Goss and Richie Porte from cycling
• Eddie Ockenden, Tim Deavin and Nick Budgeon from hockey
• Jenna Myers from weightlifting, and
• Danielle McConnell, Tristan Thomas and brothers Hamish Peacock and Huw Peacock from track and field.
