Peter Gutwein: Rebuilding the Budget
The Liberal Government is committed to rebuilding the budget day by day, dollar by dollar.
Labor and the Greens left Tasmania with a $1.1 billion budget black-hole.
We are committed to fixing the Labor-Green budget mess. Tasmanians elected us to do that, and that is what we will do.
A prudent step in this process was delaying the State Budget until August to allow us to gain a full understanding of the state’s budget position and take into account the Federal Budget.
The timing of the 2014 State Budget makes it necessary to introduce supply bills and ensure money continues to flow for vital government services and programs.
The last Supply Bill was passed in 2006 following the State Election and prior to1999 supply bills were introduced every year.
The amount provided is based on the level of spending during the same period in 2013.
The two supply bills will be superseded by the State Budget once it is passed.
This week, Parliament will also consider the Supplementary Appropriation Bill 2014. Supplementary appropriation bills approve spending on unforseen issues, such as the Mt Lyell rescue package,
approve adjustments to the amount of funds transferred from the Federal Government to State Government departments and approve the use of funds derived from asset sales.
