Peter Gutwein: Freeze on Board Fees

Posted on

The Liberal Government’s commitment to fixing the budget mess will be supported by a freeze on board fees.

The Cabinet agreed to freeze board fees for a year from July, foregoing the annual two per cent pay increase.

The freeze will apply to the Government’s more than 130 boards and committees, including Government Owned Enterprises, State Owned Companies and advisory boards, and will
save an estimated $80,000 per year.

A broader review of the Government’s boards and committees is continuing.

This is another step in our plan to rebuild the budget and clean up the mess that Labor and the Greens created.

This Government has already shown budget discipline, reducing the cost of ministerial transport, commencing the merging of DEDTA and DIER, and implementing strict vacancy control across government to ensure only essential positions are filled.

The legacy of the Labor-Green Government is a $1.1 billion budget black hole, rising debt and rising interest payments.

The Liberal Government will rebuild the budget day by day, dollar by dollar with an aim of returning the budget to surplus within six years.

This is what we were elected to do.
