Bryan Green: Qantas jobs news welcomed
Labor Leader Bryan Green welcomes today’s announcement by the Premier that Qantas jobs in Tasmania are safe.
“It is excellent news for the state’s economy,” Mr Green said.
“Labor lobbied Qantas when in government to secure the jobs and is pleased that the new government followed up on this work.
“Our campaign was about securing the existing jobs.
“We worked closely with the unions to secure those jobs and Qantas has made a decision to relocate other call centres to the state.
“Obviously, our thoughts are with affected workers in other states.”
While welcoming the news, Mr Green said the Liberal Government must not rest on its laurels.
“Only yesterday the people of Devonport were told that more than 100 jobs will go with the closure of the Sitel call centre,” Mr Green said.
“And the workers of the M2 Hobart call centre still face an uncertain future.
“The government must work with these employers and unions to support workers and find solutions to keep jobs in this state.”
