Bryan Green: Liberals split on approach to environment groups
The Liberal Government has failed at the first hurdle when it comes to the promise of standing up to environment groups.
Labor Leader Bryan Green says prior to government, the Liberals were acting like the schoolyard bully.
“They were talking tough on environmental protestors,” Mr Green said.
“Now they’ve decided to not pursue legal costs from the Save the Tarkine group.
“Snubbed Braddon backbencher Adam Brooks must be furious.”
On March 25, after the election but before Mr Brooks was overlooked for a ministry, he spoke out in the Advocate.
Mr Brooks told the Advocate: “we will make no apologies for standing up to these extremists and supporting mining development.”
Mr Green said the Liberal approach now seems to be watered down.
“I can only imagine how he feels now the Cabinet he’s not part of has decided not to pursue costs from Save the Tarkine,” Mr Green said.
“Interestingly the man who Mr Brooks replaced in Parliament, Brett Whiteley, thinks legal costs should be sought.
“The Liberals are clearly split on this issue.”
