Kim Booth: Greens elect new State Party Leader

Posted on

The Tasmanian Greens today announced that Kim Booth MP has been elected unopposed as the new Party Leader.

The Greens’ parliamentary team met this morning at Henty House, where Mr McKim announced his intention to stand down and not re-contest the leadership.

Mr Booth paid tribute to Mr McKim for putting the interests of the Party first.

“It is the mark of the man that Nick determined that a ballot was not in the best interests of the Party and accordingly did not re-contest,” Mr Booth said.

“We now have a new leader and I am looking forward to our team working hard together to grow the Party’s vote at the next election.”

“The community has delivered an unambiguous message and it is clear that we need to communicate our policies and positive vision for the future of Tasmania.”

“We are united in our determination to stand up for Tasmania, and protect its comparative and competitive advantages.”

“We are a party that looks to the future and will be advocating for real work and real jobs in the sunrise industries as we transition from the failed policies of the past, such as industrial scale logging of native forests, the toxic and divisive Tamar Valley pulp mill and the obscene destruction of the Tarkine.”

“We have a very strong and capable party room, which has not only the parliamentary experience but also the Ministerial experience to rigorously scrutinise the ‘newbie’ Liberal Ministers, and hold them to account on behalf of the Tasmanian people,” Mr Booth said.
