The Steve Irwin arrives in Hobart after record breaking anti-whaling campaign
22nd March, 2014 – Hobart, Australia:
The Sea Shepherd flagship, the Steve Irwin, has arrived in Hobart after spending more than 90 days at sea taking on the illegal whalers in the Southern Ocean.
The crew and Captain Sid Charavarty received a warm welcome from Tasmanians who have been very generous in the support of Sea Shepherd ships.
This year the Sea Shepherd fleet spent the longest time at sea in its 10 year Antarctic campaign history, with an expectation that the whalers will have caught less than 25% of their proposed kill.
Over the course of its previous nine Antarctic Whale Defence Campaigns, Sea Shepherd has saved the lives of 4,500 whales and remains the only organisation committed to upholding the sanctity of the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary, directly intervening against the illegal operations of the Japanese whaling fleet.
