Sea Shepherd welcomes Hobart City Council’s ‘Friendship City’ support
Chairman of Sea Shepherd Australia, Bob Brown, has welcomed the Hobart City Council motion passed last night: ‘As an honorary gesture, the Council offer to become a Friendship City to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and extend its hospitality to its vessel “The Bob Barker” by holding a civic reception, at an appropriate time, including the presentation of a City of Hobart Friendship City plaque.’
“This will be greeted with delight by Sea Shepherd supporters around the World, not least those on The Bob Barker and The Steve Irwin, currently pursuing the whale slaughter fleet in the Antarctic, ” said Bob Brown.
“This is more than symbolic, it shows a real feeling of support to those magnificent crews on The Bob Barker and Sea Shepherd’s other ships,” said Dr Brown
“For years, my crew and I have considered Hobart to be our unofficial home port because of the tremendous outpouring of support that we have received there from Tasmanians. Hobart has often been the launching point of Sea Shepherd’s annual campaigns to stop the poaching of whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. Through action, Tasmanians show their love for whales every year by donating fuel and food for our ships and now, most recently in Hobart City Council, adopting The Bob Barker as a fellow Tasmanian,” said Captain of The Bob Barker, Peter Hammarstedt
