New CEO

Posted on

The Public Trustee has appointed a new CEO, Tasmanian-born David Benbow, marking a new
era for the organisation, which farewelled long-standing CEO Peter Maloney last week.

Mr Benbow brings more than 14 years’ experience in the industry to his new position and has
played a pivotal role in the expansion of major Tasmanian organisations during his career.

He held executive positions through the merger of Perpetual Trustees Tasmania and
Tasmanian Trustees, creating Tasmanian Perpetual Trustees, and was also a senior executive
at MyState Limited, created through the merger of MyState Financial and Tasmanian
Perpetual Trustees.

While his extensive professional experience holds him in good stead for the new position, Mr
Benbow said it was not only the commercial aspect, but the social element that attracted him
to the role.

“The position at the Public Trustee is an ideal fit for me, as it requires a genuine empathy for
people who are often dealing with extraordinarily difficult circumstances,” Mr Benbow said.

“I have always felt compassion for those within our communities in need of a little extra
support, and I am dedicated to ensuring they can access the best services available in the
state.

“Since starting at the Public Trustee, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the team and
I’ve been inspired by their passion for our clients and know we will work together to tailor
our services to best suit their needs.

“The organisation has been servicing Tasmanians for more than 160 years now and we
intend to be here for another 160 at least.

“We never underestimate our responsibility to the people of Tasmania and we are committed
to ensuring we continue to make our services even better and more accessible for everyone
in the community.”

Mr Benbow is on the Board of Cosmos – a community organisation offering learning
opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities – as well as COTA Tasmania, which
provides advocacy for older Tasmanians.

He grew up on the North West Coast, but now lives in southern Tasmania with his family and
loves all the state has to offer, including the island lifestyle which accommodates his love of
cycling and fishing.
