Diabetes friendly schools under the Liberals
Tasmania will have ‘diabetes friendly’ schools if the Liberals are elected.
Liberal Lyons candidate Guy Barnett who has type 1 diabetes said there were an estimated 3000 people with type 1 diabetes in Tasmania with 300 of those in Tasmanian schools.
“It is important that our children with type 1 diabetes receive consistency of care and diabetes management in Tasmanian schools. Currently the arrangements are fragmented.
“A Liberal government will work with Diabetes Tasmania, the diabetes centres and other health and education professionals to ensure consistency of care state-wide.
“Diabetes Tasmania is co-ordinating the development of overarching support resources as well as online and hard copy resources for education and training, and a Liberal government will support its role-out in a consistent and co-ordinated way.
“A Liberal government will work with the key health and education professionals to ensure that all students with diabetes in Tasmania are fully supported in their care,” he concluded.
