Backing Landcare
The Tasmanian Greens today announced a funding package to provide long term funding certainty for Landcare.
Greens Primary Industries spokesperson Kim Booth MP said the Greens would provide $280,000 to Landcare over the forward estimates, and establish linkages with UTAS and DPIPWE to help improve delivery and auditing of projects.
“Whether they are restoring degraded habitat, managing erosion, fighting weeds or cleaning up waterways the work of Landcare is of long term benefit to all Tasmanians,” Mr Booth said.
“Landcare’s work is vital to our community and they should not have to live a hand-to-mouth existence, and go out with a begging bowl for funding at every election.”
“The Greens want to make sure Landcare has the long term funding certainty they need to deliver long term results.”
“We will restore the annual funding by providing $280,000 over the forward estimates as well as funding a secretariat through a partnership with TIAR, DPIWE and Landcare to audit and evaluate the success of works that have been done and to inform future projects”
“Landcare has provided a generation of farmers the knowledge and assistance they need to improve their farming and land management practices, and deliver long term financial benefits to rural communities.”
“Landcare brings together the whole community to learn about environmental issues as well as delivering real practical on ground projects that improve both the environmental health and the productivity of farm land”
