Nick McKim: FIAT cannot blame the Greens …

Posted on

The Tasmanian Greens have laughed off the Forest Industry Association of Tasmania’s attempts to blame the Greens for supposed uncertainty over the Tasmanian Forests Agreement (TFA).

Greens Leader Nick McKim today pointed out to Mr Edwards that the TFA legislation had only passed through the Parliament because the Greens voted for it, and reminded him that it is in only the Liberals who have a policy position of ripping up the TFA.

“It’s laughable for Mr Edwards to attack the Greens when we supported the TFA bill in parliament, and ignore the Liberals who voted against it and are threatening to rip it up.” Mr McKim said.

“It is the Liberals who are threatening to pitch Tasmania back into conflict and division, not the Greens.”

“This from a man who walked out of the TFA negotiations on numerous occasions, but always came back because he knows that without the TFA his industry will collapse due to lack of market access and its pulp mill fixation.”

“Mr Edwards knows full well that the Liberals are the biggest threat to the TFA, and therefore the biggest threat to market access for the timber industry he claims to be representing.”

“If Mr Edwards wants to welsh on the agreement then he should go ahead and do it. His attempts to blame the Greens are simply comic relief.”
