CROSS-PARTY COOPERATION ESSENTIAL TO BILL’S SUCCESS

Marriage Equality advocates have welcomed the Federal Member for Sydney, Tanya Plibersek’s, announcement that she will bring forward a Marriage Equality bill once Coalition MPs are granted a conscience vote on the issue, but have warned that cross-party co-operation is essential if it is to pass.

Australian Marriage Equality National Director Rodney Croome said,

“We thank Ms Plibersek for her commitment to marriage equality and look forward to working with her and her colleagues to progress this legislation through federal parliament.”

“As Ms Plibersek has acknowledged, cross-party cooperation is key to the success of this reform, and we join her in calling for cross-party co-sponsorship of the bill.”
