Friends of the Hagley Farm School delighted at Centre of Excellence

Posted on

The Friends of Hagley Farm School are excited by today’s announcement by the Tasmanian Liberals of a centre of excellence in agricultural education being established at the Hagley Farm Primary School. It would be hoped that such an initiative encourages young Tasmanians to look at agriculture as a future career.

For agriculture as a whole this initiative has the potential to deliver positive outcomes for Tasmania. Relationships developed with other key stakeholders in agriculture can only benefit both the centre of excellence and the agricultural sector.

This firmly puts the school and farm at the centre of primary school agricultural education in Tasmania. This is in contrast to the possibility of downgrading or closure of the school and farm only last year.

More than ever it is important that people know where their food comes from. Starting in primary school is the ideal way of ensuring that our community are aware of the role farming and farmers have in both food production and the local economy.
