Free Metro travel for tertiary students

Posted on

The Tasmanian Greens leader Nick McKim MP today announced a plan to provide free Metro travel for University of Tasmania and TasTAFE students.

“We know tertiary students already struggle with the cost of living, and this will help ease some of the pressure,” Mr McKim said.

“We want to encourage more young people onto public transport, which will reduce emissions and traffic congestion, and help address cost of living pressures for young Tasmanians.”

“Public transport is often the only viable mode of transportation open for students travelling between home, places of work and study.”

“Having access to affordable and high quality public transport makes a huge to difference to quality of life as a student.”

“Tasmania is already one of the best places in the country to live and study, and this policy will help make our state even more attractive to students from interstate and overseas.”

“The university is already a big economic driver in this state, injecting millions of dollars every year into our economy.”

“This is all about reducing the cost of living burden for students, reducing traffic congestion, bringing down emissions, and encouraging more people on to public transport.”
