Calls for energy efficiency welcomed
The Tasmanian Greens today welcomed the call from Sustainable Living Tasmania, TasCOSS and Anglicare for more investment in energy efficiency.
Greens Leader Nick McKim reiterated the Greens’ previously released election commitment to invest an extra $5m over four years into energy efficiency upgrades for low income Tasmanians.
“A Greens Minister has already delivered nearly 10 000 energy efficiency upgrades to low income Tasmanians, community groups and small businesses over the last four years, who are now saving up to $1000 each year on their power bills and enjoying a healthier living and working environment,” Mr McKim said.
“We’ve spoken to tenants whose Aurora Pay As You Go costs have gone from $20 a week to $8, and others who report saving up to $300 a quarter on their power bills after free energy efficiency upgrades.”
“And remember, these savings are ongoing, year after year.”
“That’s why the Greens will keep investing in energy efficiency into the future.”
