Unprovoked attack on Tasmanian resident highlights Liberals’ ideological obsession

Posted on

The Australian Greens today said the Liberals should stop attacking Tasmanians and get on with delivering for the State. The unprovoked attack on Tasmanian Colin Russell by Liberal MP Brett Whiteley highlights just how out of touch the Abbott government has become.

Tasmanian Senator Peter Whish-Wilson said, “In a week where Senator Bernardi takes it upon himself to attack single parents, Liberal MP Brett Whiteley has come out and attacked Tasmanian resident Colin Russell for simply getting caught up in the corrupt Russian legal system.

“Rather than focussing on the job of governing, the Liberal Party in Tasmania continues to prosecute ideological wars. There has never been a new government so out-of-touch so soon into their first term.

“Of course Brett Whiteley wants to attack Greenpeace activists, as he is unable to talk about any achievements made by this rabble of a new government.

“Brett Whiteley should stop playing ideological games at the behest of Eric Abetz and start delivering for the constituents of Braddon.

“The people of Burnie and Devonport and Queenstown need a representative focussed on their needs, not on political grandstanding.

“All Australians have a right to consular assistance overseas, and unless the government is looking to privatise our embassy network and sell consular assistance to the highest bidder they should stop sulking and get on with governing,” Senator Whish-Wilson concluded.
