Nick McKim: Pulp Mill Taskforce dinosaur breathes again
Full Disclosure of Public Money Involved Needed
The Tasmanian Greens today called for full disclosure of any taxpayer funds being spent on Labor’s Pulp Mill Consultative Committee, describing it as a reconstituted version of Paul Lennon’s discredited Pulp mill Taskforce.
Greens Leader Nick McKim MP described the latest developments as being like the state’s own Jurassic Park with the old Taskforce being dusted off and dragged out to join the other pulp mill dinosaurs.
“No matter whether Committee members submit claims for expenses or are paid for their time on this reconstituted pulp mill taskforce, we need full public disclosure on how much taxpayers’ money is being sunk into spruiking the project,” Mr McKim said.
“This is Jurassic Park with the same old dinosaurs, the same old dinosaur project, and same old waste of taxpayers’ money trying to foist the pulp mill onto a community which does not want it.”
“People will remember very clearly that the RPDC described the Tamar Valley pulp mill proposal as ‘critically non-compliant’ just prior to it being pulled from their independent assessment process.”
“We wouldn’t be surprised if the old Pulp Mill bus doesn’t go spluttering up the Midland Highway with dinosaurs like Paul Lennon and Bob Gordon back at the wheel,” Mr McKim said.
