Liberal-Labor coalition government formed
The Tasmanian Greens Forestry spokesperson Kim Booth today commended the hundreds of Tasmanians who raised their voices to defend our democracy against the corrupted and divisive Tamar Valley pulp mill.
Mr Booth said thousands of Tasmanians are angry and disappointed that Labor and Liberal were again teaming up to force undemocratic legislation on the Tasmanian community.
“The first and only decision of the new Labor-Liberal minority government will be to trample the community’s legal rights in relation to the pulp mill,” Mr Booth said.
“My colleague Nick McKim attempted on two separate occasions to table a no confidence motion in the Government, but Labor and Liberal conspired to ensure that we couldn’t even table it, let alone debate it.” [1]
“As the community came together in front of the Parliament to protect their environment and their democracy, Labor and Liberal were inside forming a coalition to ram through dodgy legislation at the request of their big business masters.”
“The Greens will continue to represent the community who want a future clean and free of the Tamar Valley pulp mill.”
“Even though I was deeply disappointed to see the Labor and Liberal parties still up to their same old tricks, I was inspired to see so many people today prepared to speak out.”
“Standing today with my state colleagues, Senator Milne and Senator Whish-Wilson, reminded me of the strength and determination of our grassroots party.”
