Conservationists target Ta Ann calling for an end to native forest destruction
Conservationists have today gathered outside the head office of Ta Ann Tasmania, calling for an end to the company’s destruction of native forests. This action is part of Fearless Summer, a national movement for the protection of Australia’s native forests.
“Ta Ann have no place in Tasmania. This company continues to drive the destruction of our precious native forests here in Tasmania and have an unacceptable reputation internationally of human rights abuses, corruption and destruction of orang-utan habitat” said Miranda Gibson, spokesperson for Still Wild Still Threatened.
“Today’s action is part of the Fearless Summer national movement for the protection of Australia’s native forests. Since early December numerous actions in Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania have highlighted the role of international companies like Nippon Paper and Ta Ann in the destruction of irreplaceable forests” said Ms Gibson.
“Millions of dollars of tax-payer funds have been poured into propping up this unsustainable and economically unviable industry. Private overseas-based companies like Ta Ann and Nippon Paper are profiting while Australia loses it’s iconic forests and wildlife” said Ms Gibson
Still Wild Still Threatened is a grassroots community organisation campaigning for the immediate protection of Tasmania’s native forests and the creation of an equitable and environmentally sustainable forestry industry in Tasmania.
