But is it Tasmanian on Australia Day? – TFGA

Posted on

Whatever you are serving up on Australia Day, make sure it isTasmanian – or, at the very least that it is Australian grown, the state’s farmers said today.

“Australia Day should be the very occasion when patriotism coincides with loyalty, loyalty to local produce,” Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association chief executive Jan Davis said.

Ms Davis said Tasmanian farmers, seafood producers and vineyards were renowned for the quality of their produce; and there was no greater occasion for people to show where their heart was than on Australia Day.

“It’s the one day of the year when we all have a duty to back the people who produce our food and wine,” she said. “And we know we are buying the best in the world because nobody does it better than Tasmania.”

Ms Davis said that more and more local stores and supermarkets were focusing on Tasmanian produce.

“I know it’s a bit hard sometimes to identify the real source of your food, but we are keeping the pressure on to make this easier. Nonetheless, it is worth making that extra effort.

“Tasmanian consumers have access to the most amazing array of local produce, including fruit, vegetables, sauces, cheeses, wine and fruit juices, meat, seafood and even the bread for your sausage on Australia Day.

“On Australia Day, we urge you to raise a glass to our farmers and to the other producers who put the taste of Tasmania on our plates,” Ms Davis said.

You know it makes sense.
