Abhorrent, says Nick McKim
RESPONSE TO PULP MILL LEGISLATION
The Tasmanian Greens have described the pulp mill doubts removal Bill released by Labor today as abhorrent.
Greens Leader Nick McKim said that once gain a faceless corporation is calling the shots and demanding that the parliament jump to its tune, and once again Liberal and Labor are asking ‘how high?’
“This is groundhog day,” Mr McKim said.
“Just as Robin Gray did for the Wesley Vale proposal, and just as Paul Lennon did for Gunns Ltd, now we have Lara Giddings and Will Hodgman backing more abhorrent legislation designed to cut the Tasmanian people out of having a say in their future.”
“This Bill writes yet another chapter in a shameful, generation long saga that has destroyed confidence in our democracy, and in our public institutions.”
“Remember, this legislation is designed to facilitate a project that was found to be ‘critically non-compliant’ by Tasmania’s peak planning body.”
“While Labor and the Liberals vision for Tasmania’s future stops at a toxic and divisive pulp mill, the Greens will stay focussed on the many industry sectors where Tasmania has a competitive advantage over the rest of the world.”
