TFS and the 2013 Resilient Australia Awards
LYONS Liberal MHR Eric Hutchinson has congratulated the Tasmania Fire Service as the only organisation from the state to be recognised in the 2013 Resilient Australia Awards.
Mr Hutchinson said today (Saturday) that he was impressed with the Tasmania Fire Service’s success as one of the two winners nationally in the state or territory government sector of the awards announced this week.
Two South Australian organisations were included in this sector alongside the Tasmania Fire Service.
Federal Justice Minister Michael Keenan made presentations to the South Australian Climate Change Adaption Program as a winner, a highly commended to the South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission as well as the Tasmania Fire Service for its win.
The Tasmanian win was for the fire service’s community protection planning.
The awards were among 20 presented to recipients by Mr Keenan.
The awards recognise the innovation that is making Australian communities safer, stronger, more resilient and better prepared to manage emergency situations, Mr Keenan said.
He said that in the past few years Australia had experienced a devastating series of natural disasters.
“The Resilient Australia Awards showcase how communities are rethinking the way that they prepare for emergencies and disasters,’’ Mr Keenan said.
This year’s federal government awards attracted 170 entries from all states and territories, the biggest number since they started in 2000.
Mr Hutchinson said that he was pleased to see the Tasmania Fire Service’s work acknowledged on the national stage.
