New Protest group: Grandparents Against the Pulp Mill

Posted on

Tomorrow (Tuesday December 10) at 10 am, a new protest group called Grandparents Against the Pulp Mill, will hold a peaceful demonstration outside Gunns’ office in 233b Charles Street.

Grandparents Against the Pulp Mill are standing up for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s health, and a safe environment for their future.

Susie Clarke, spokesperson for Grandparents Against the Pulp Mill, says “We are concerned about the particulates in the air pollution that the pulp mill will emit into our atmosphere. We already have high incidences of lung disease in this valley, and our children are particularly vulnerable to asthma. The mill will also pump dioxins into Bass Strait, so people eating seafood from Bass Strait will be poisoned by these dioxins which cause cancer, and genetic disturbances in unborn foetuses of all species, including humans. There is also the issue of a huge increase in log trucks on our roads, which will pose a threat to our safety.

“We as grandparents will ensure that our grandchildren will inherit our beautiful valley as it is.” she concluded.
