Money for men’s group
THE Men’s Group, from Beaconsfield on the West Tamar, is one of 44 community organisations nationally to receive federal government Shed Development Program funding.
Lyons Liberal MHR Eric Hutchinson said today that the Beaconsfield Men’s Group would receive $2800 to help buy hand and power woodworking tools and equipment.
Mr Hutchinson said that men’s sheds could apply for grants under the scheme to upgrade their buildings, add new facilities, buy tools and work equipment or improve safety and amenity.
“Men’s sheds play an important role in our communities providing practical and social benefits for their members and the broader community,’’ Mr Hutchinson said.
“They provide a welcoming environment where men of all ages can work on a project or simply drop in for a cuppa and mateship.’’
This round of grants was awarded to men’s sheds that demonstrated a commitment to working with local councils and other community services.
Under the Shed Development Program sheds groups in Australia can apply for up to $8000 in financial support.
A new funding round for men’s sheds will open in January next year. Details can be found at www.mensshed.org/home/.aspx
Information on the application process can be obtained from the Australian Men’s Shed Association by email at amasa@mensshed.net or telephone 1 300 550 009.
Other Tasmanian groups among the 44 nationally to receive funding this time around included Somerset Community Shed and the Bruny Island Men’s Shed.
