… new laws

The Greens’ “Fearless Summer” forest protest campaign, soon to be launched, is another reason to support the state Liberal’s tough new laws on forest protestors, said Mr Guy Barnett State Liberal candidate today.

“A coalition of nationwide green groups will be targeting Tasmania in the coming months. It makes a joke of the so-called forest peace deal legislated by the Labor Green government. The Liberal’s tough new laws to protect jobs from illegal and dangerous protests is one way we can thwart this proposed summer campaign. It appears that some of the ENGO signatories to the forestry deal and possibly their members may be endorsing or involved in this campaign.

“The fly-in and fly-out green protestors will be doing their best to damage our forestry and associated businesses. The greens get their way in Tasmania and it has caused massive job losses.

“Tasmania has lost 11,000 jobs under this Labor Green government and our forest industry has been brought to its knees.

“Hundreds of mainland University students and latte-sipping mainland city slickers are likely to be heading to Tasmania this summer to protest. Why will the green fly-ins and locals keep protesting when they know they will pay a hefty fine or go to gaol? Law-abiding businesses and their law-abiding hard working men and women deserve protection from sabotage and illegal protesters getting in their way. Protesters invading the work-place should be dealt with severely.

If they want to protest they can do so peacefully elsewhere without disruption, Mr Barnett concluded.
