Development heralds new era for Triabunna

Posted on

The Tasmanian Greens today said that a proposed new tourism venture at Triabunna was an exciting prospect that could be the first major step in transforming the east coast town into a major tourism hub.

Greens Tourism spokesperson Tim Morris MP urged all sides of politics to back the proposal, and warned that allowing the project to become a political football would be harmful to the region’s economic future.

“This is a very exciting prospect for the east coast, and a strong sign of growing confidence in Tasmania’s economy,” Mr Morris said.

“Triabunna has been through some tough times, so it’s encouraging to see entrepreneurs with the confidence to stump up new money for such an ambitious job-creation project.”

“Triabunna is an ideal gateway to a whole range of east coast attractions including Maria Island, which is a stunning tourism gem with loads of untapped potential.”

“The Greens firmly believe that Triabunna is just waiting to be transformed to be a hub for Orford to the south, Swansea and Coles Bay to the north and Maria Island just offshore.”

“This development is too important to be treated as a political football, which is why we are urging all sides of politics and the Tasmanian community to back the project.”

“It’s exactly the shot in the arm that this hard-hit part of regional Tasmania needs right now to secure its future clearly in the tourism sector.”
