Council backs new teacher employment offer
AEU Tasmanian Branch Council has tonight (Thurs) backed a new employment offer from the state government and will recommend to the broader membership that the proposed new employment Agreement be supported in a statewide ballot.
“Council believed that the new offer supported quality education in Tasmania and would address some key teacher workload and salary concerns,” said Roz Madsen, AEU Tasmanian Branch State Manager.
“Central to the new offer was addressing teacher workload issues for the benefit of the individual learning needs of students. An important element of this is time quarantined for teachers to spend on the preparation, planning and assessment.”
“We are also pleased that we will be able to retain and attract quality teachers through a competitive salary that is in line with the state government wages policy.”
Branch Council passed unanimously a motion at the extraordinary meeting to recommend that the membership vote in support of the proposed new Teachers’ Employment Agreement.
The electronic ballot of all AEU teacher members working in schools and colleges is planned to open tomorrow (Friday 13 December).
