Political donation reforms welcome

Posted on

The Tasmanian Greens today welcomed the tabling of the Electoral Amendment (Electoral Expenditure and Political Donations) Bill 2013, which seeks to introduce a cap on election spending and real time donations disclosure.

Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said the Greens had long campaigned for state-based political donation reform, and measures which make the state’s elections process more equitable and transparent.

“These reforms will provide Tasmanians with a fairer, more equitable and transparent electoral system,” Mr McKim said.

“We have championed for years the need for state-based political donations reform, to ensure public confidence in our democracy, and this Bill is a good and positive step in the right direction.”
