AETV FINANCIAL DISASTER REVEALED

The Tasmanian Greens today called on Labor and Liberal to apologise to Tasmanian taxpayers for the disastrous decision in 2008 to purchase the Tamar Valley Power Station.

Greens Energy spokesperson Kim Booth MP said revelations that $335 million had been wiped from Hydro Tasmania’s bottom line were yet another blow to Tasmanian power consumers, where were paying for the mistake through their energy bills.

“At last we have a dollar figure for how much this financial disaster has cost the Tasmanian people,” Mr Booth said.

“The best way to describe this is absolute incompetence writ large on the part of both the Labor and Liberal parties.”

“The Greens warned in 2008 that purchasing this heap of worthless scrap metal would only drive power prices through the roof.”

“We told the previous government under David Bartlett not to proceed with the purchase, but they were determined to proceed with support from the Liberal Party.

“This is yet another example of Labor and Liberal in bungling lockstep on a major decision on energy, that will be paid for by mum and dad power users.”
