Senator Bilyk elected as new Deputy Opposition Whip
Senator Catryna Bilyk, Labor Senator for Tasmania, is pleased to have been elected to the position of Deputy Opposition Whip in the Senate in the new Federal Labor Opposition.
“It is an honour to have been elected to the position of Deputy Opposition Whip in the Senate,” Senator Bilyk said “I would like to congratulate my Tasmanian Senate colleague Anne Urquhart on being elected to the other position of Deputy Opposition Whip”.
“I will look forward to serving with the Chief Opposition Whip in the Senate Anne McEwen and with Senator Urquhart to ensure that the Senate operates as smoothly as possible,” said Senator Bilyk.
The Labor Senate team has an important role in the 44th Parliament to protect the jobs and standard of living for Australian families.
“I will work hard with the other members of Bill Shorten’s team to ensure that the Coalition Government is held to account,” said Senator Bilyk “Tasmanians are concerned with just how reckless the new Government appears to be and the Senate is the most powerful forum to keep a check on their thought bubble policies”.
Senators Bilyk and Urquhart are just two out of six Tasmanian Labor Senators and Members to hold roles in the Opposition team.
“I would also like to congratulate my other Tasmanian Labor colleagues, Julie Collins, Helen Polley, Carol Brown & Lisa Singh on their new portfolios,” Senator Bilyk said “
