Sea Shepherd calls on Abbott to keep Antarctic whale patrol promise
Sea Shepherd Australia Chair, Dr Bob Brown, says that a pre election Coalition promise to have Customs patrol vessels onsite when Japan’s whaling fleet enters the Antarctic whale sanctuary next summer, must be endorsed by the Prime Minister Tony Abbott.
“Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has flagged a back flip on this unequivocal promise to Australian voters. Mr. Abbott who has committed to end broken promises and lies in politics should re-assert the Government’s pre-election promise,”” said Dr Bob Brown
On April 9, 2013 Environment Minister Greg Hunt stated,
“There is an entire division of Customs meant to be conducting Southern Ocean patrols. We would make sure it is operational down there during the whaling season. On balance it would seem the prudent and rational thing to do.”
